very frost hardy bush that grows to a height of abaout 1,5 meter. Less suited for cordon training, although it is possible. Prefers a sunny spot or dappled shade.. Grows best in a well areated, moist retentative soil (covering the soil with mulch is strongly advised) Fruits very young and easily. Fruiting depends partly on the wheather (cold and rain are unfavourable). Fruiting will be better when more than one bush is planted. Flowers early (April) butis very cold resistant. Flowers appear in small clusters with red-purplish-brown flowers. Pollination is mostly done by Bumble bees, solitary bees and when wheather is favourable also by honey bees. Care: prune crossing branches, and rejuvenate the branches (replacing 1/3 every year). Keep the bush open (colouring of the berries - picking). Add some compost ans mulch around the bush yearly. Birds do not like these berries compared to red currants... |
